As we transition from summer to fall, we also transition from shorts to pants. Looking at this year’s trends, it’s more like a transition from high-waisted shorts to high-waisted pants.
When wearing high-waisted bottoms, you face the risk of verging on a mom or even grandma jean type of look. The way to avoid this is by strategically pairing it with something along the lines of a cropped bustier, an oversized flannel and some combat boots, and yes, studs help complete the look.
The beauty of high-waisted bottoms is how flattering they can be. If you have a shirt that is too short, tuck it in, no one will ever know. Plus they accentuate the smallest part of your waist, coming in tight right above your stomach but under your ribs, hello tummy control and goodbye muffin top. The shorts version did show a lot of leg, often coming in the “cheeky” look, but the pants option is full-on coverage while still showing off the good curves. Get a pair of high-waisted jeans in a dark wash for the most appealing look.
High-waisted skinny jeans have a more sophisticated look, perfect for college students starting to refine their style. I think we can safely put our low-rise, flare-leg, American Eagle jeans in the donation pile.
